What is Dementia Care?
Dementia is a broad term for loss of memory, thinking, cognitive, and language abilities. Over time, these symptoms can become severe enough that they interfere in the person's daily functioning and quality of life and can pose safety concerns.
Dementia care includes interventions, care practices, and activities specific to helping with these symptoms and avoiding things that can upset a person with dementia. For instance, a person’s first instinct might be to correct someone with memory issues when they remember something incorrectly—a common one is thinking someone is alive that isn’t. This is inherently upsetting for anyone, but for someone without memory issues, it would be helpful to remind them. Someone with memory issues, however, will likely forget this reminder, but won’t lose the feeling of loss and confusion that came with it.
Vascular Dementia
This is a progressive type of dementia, with the person requiring a high level of care. You may be able to care for a loved one at first, however, specialized care will be required once the disease is in its advanced stages. Our caregivers provide complete care, letting you get back to your daily routine and allowing you time to savour precious moments with your loved one.
Frontotemporal Dementia
Caring for someone with a frontotemporal disorder is physically and mentally challenging for families. This particular form of dementia can cause dramatic changes in personality. Our caregivers are trained to handle unexpected behaviours, emotional difficulties, mobility issues, and trouble communicating sensitively. With flexible care programs, you can schedule care during the day or have someone be with your loved one round-the-clock.
Dementia with Lewy Bodies
Caring for a senior or older adult with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) can place emotional and time demands on family members that they cannot meet. ComForCare's caregivers help minimize stress and anxiety for your loved one with LBD. We ensure they retain a regular routine, engage in simple tasks, exercise regularly, and receive sufficient sleep.
Parkinson's Disease
Communication difficulties and the physical demands of caring for someone with Parkinson's can be challenging for anyone juggling their personal and professional lives. Our caregivers provide companionship, assist with mobility, ensure timely medication, and keep your loved one safe.
